Deciding to be thankful even when we don’t get what we want can be challenging. We all want what we want. But when the Spirit of God is in control of our lives, we are able to be thankful, even when we don’t get what we want. And it is by this that the Name of the Lord is truly honored and glorified in our lives.
What greater witness and testimony is there than seeing someone who is full of the Holy Spirit in the midst of trial and storms, and who is thankful?
ARRIVING AT THANKFULNESS
Getting to the place of thankfulness in times when we don’t get what we want comes from a few things:
- accepting the CROSS in our lives—- dying to self
- accepting Jesus as LORD of our lives—- desiring His will, way, timing, provisions, etc
- living by the Spirit of God
When the Lord is Lord of our lives—- we are accepting His will, and we are focusing on pleasing HIM alone.
So when something happens that would normally throw us off balance—we are able to accept it, and not react with grumbling, complaining, negativity.
Another important key is focusing on all the things I do have—-and how blessed I truly am!
Things will start going downhill FAST when we focus on what we don’t have that we want—- it’s a trap!
Tomorrow is not even guaranteed—-all we have is right now and if we focus on the one thing we don’t have right now that we want, we will totally miss what we do have, and be miserable for no reason!
God is in control and we can trust in Him!
Taking our eyes off of ourselves is the first step to becoming thankful, even when we don’t get what we want! 🙂
