“I Want To Be Close To Christ, But I’m Too Sinful”

“I Want To Be Close To Christ, But I’m Too Sinful”

Something that is becoming increasingly burdensome to me is the thought of any one who is truly born again questioning whether they are truly saved or not, all because they are not perfect in every way all the time at every moment.

****And as a general disclaimer, I’m not saying it is ok to do/say/think ANYTHING contrary to the Word of God or the Spirit of God, but I am saying that regardless of this fact, we can do NOTHING to earn or keep our salvation which is in Christ alone by faith!

The Lie Exposed

Instead of believing on what CHRIST HAS DONE, many people believe that being a good person or doing a lot of things for God is what makes them righteous or saved in God’s sight. That is a lie, a clever lie from the devil in order to turn the eyes of those who believe on Christ alone to trust in themselves and their own works.

Scriptures That Reveal This Truth

“For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” Romans :3-4

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.” Romans 3:20-26

There are more verses, but this one basically sums it all up 🙂

The Problem

Now, knowing this fact, I pray God opens your eyes to it if He hasn’t already. If he hasn’t, I can bet and assume that you have been in a position or situation before in your life where you have realized how sinful you really are, and you start to question whether you are truly born again.

And in that time,

  • Your faith is totally weakened or even wiped out, and you are stuck spiritually where you are.
  • You feel you are too horrible to approach God.
  • You feel that you aren’t good enough to even pray anymore.
  • You don’t talk about Him because you feel you are too much of a hypocrite.
  • You resort into your own mind and believe a lot of things that are just not true, all because you realized you can’t stop sinning or that you are truly sinful, etc.
  • You compare yourself to yourself and all you see is yourself because all you are looking at is yourself.

If you are in that state, or have been, and find yourself going in that cycle of self-analyzing, then let it be known that once and for all this question is settled and that the reason you have this experience is because the enemy wants you to believe it in order to cast you under the burden of not only a works-based salvation, but in order to cripple your faith and cripple and wipe out the Testimony of CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD AND SAVIOR!

The Solution

The solution to this problem is simply and gloriously CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD! In order to have this question forever settled, the Holy Spirit must open your eyes to show you that in yourself, you are DEAD in God’s sight, and now, the only thing God sees when He looks at you is CHRIST JESUS IN YOU. His eyes are on CHRIST ALONE!

Can you accept this? Can you accept that Jesus Christ is our salvation, our righteousness, our redemption? And that there is truly NOTHING you can ever do to earn it?

Did you know that when we stand before God, we will not be judged according to how many sins we have committed, but by how much of CHRIST has been formed in us?

“But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

But ye have not so learned Christ; If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” Ephesians 4

The trouble with so many is that they don’t understand how we will not be judged by our sins. But think about that—– Christ died and when He died, we died with Him:

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” 2 Cor. 5

He was made sin for US–for US?!?!?! That we might be made the righteousness of God in HIM!

Have you really seen that with your spiritual eyes?

For if you had, you would be free from the works-based ideas of this world and the devil, and you would be free from all the crippling fear and accusations that your own mind hurls at you!

Have we really seen just how GREAT our God is?! Christ is the whole thing! He is everything! And He has come to set us free from the law of sin and death!!!!

Another problem that needs to be exposed is that a lot of people think that Romans 7 is the “Christian struggle”–meaning it is what all Christians go through. Let the truth be known that what Paul has said in Chapter 6 of Romans is the explanation of how to GET RID OF all that is said in Chapter 7 of Romans, which leads to the wonderful Life in the Spirit in Chapter 8 of Romans!

Do you see the real order of all of that now? We are dead in Christ, dead to our old man who was corrupted by sin and death, and because he was corrupted by sin and death, he could NEVER be what God wanted, and that is why that old man has no place in the life of God because he will only struggle to conquer his own sin and he will FAIL every single time (hence chapter 7)!

The only way to live is BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD, and that can only happen if we have truly accepted what Chapter 6 says (We are DEAD IN CHRIST! And we are become NEW in Him)!

And over all of this is FAITH! It is by FAITH in Christ. Faith means we don’t see it! We believe it! It means that even when we are caught “overtaken in a fault”, we exercise FAITH and ask the Lord to place that fault under the Blood! And that is how and why those who are in Christ are no longer any condemnation! We are free from condemnation so long as we walk after the SPIRIT and not the fleshly old man!

What Happens?

Now, after we have truly seen that we are dead and that it is only by faith in Christ and by His Spirit that we can live according to God, then we are taken through many experiences where we still see how sinful we are! And when we see how sinful we are, that is when our hearts break out in true adoration and worship of the Lord because if not for His grace, we would all be hopeless! His grace becomes real and amazing, when once we see how utterly vile we are, and how wonderful He is by shedding His own blood in order to redeem us and create us into His own image!

And the way we are conformed to His image is just by this process of seeing how sinful we are in ourselves, and how totally altogether different and other Christ is in us! We have His Spirit dwelling within us to tell us when we are doing something in our old man and it’s old ways of this world. Any time we sense that we have “sinned” that is the Spirit simply showing us that that is of our OLD MAN and must be “put away” because Christ is different! And once we see these differences, it is our obligation to forsake that way of the old man, and follow Christ in us! The Spirit of Christ and of Life!

And as we move along in our spiritual life, things begin to change, old habits, old ways of thinking, old faults start melting away as we see how Christ is, and we live according to how He is within us! He is love, He is patience, He is Kind, He is gentle……and whatever is contrary to Him is of our OLD MAN, and must be seen as put to death in us!

I have struggled with this for a long long time and I know how crippling it can be to question whether you are truly born again and saved or not. And the Lord has shown me that, without excusing sin, there is NOTHING I can do to earn salvation. And once I realized that, I was free to allow His SPIRIT to work in me to will and to do of His good pleasure.

Has every little fault ceased? Definitely not. Just yesterday I found myself rushing off in my mind getting myself mad at my husband for something he didn’t even say! Without realizing it! And after that was over and my husband told me and showed me how I was wrong in my thoughts, did I fall down under condemnation that I am a vile sinner and can’t be perfect? Hardly! I said, “Lord, thank you for showing me once again how different I am than you, and I ask that you place this fault under the Blood of Jesus! You are my only hope”!

That simple situation could have costed me MONTHS of time going around analyzing myself and trying to figure out why I’m not perfect if I am truly saved!

I pray that if you have seen anything in this today that you would seek the Lord about it and be freed from it’s crippling effect over you!

God will surely finish His work in us if we are FAITHFUL in Him to do it! We can’t change our selves—- we can only die to that thought and way, and allow the Spirit of God to work in us to conform us to the image of Christ Jesus our Lord! 🙂
