When it says “the active side of living by the life of Christ”, it means, what is on our end of this living by the life of Christ? What does it entail? What do we need to do in order to live by the life of Christ in us?
Out Of Adam First
Before anyone can live by the life of Christ dwelling within, they must first be born from above (John 3)! Because when we are born from above, we are placing our faith in Christ as having DIED IN OUR PLACE AS a human with the Adam nature. We were born naturally into the race of Adam. And when we believe on Christ, we are placing our faith in Him as having stood in our place as the WHOLE RACE OF ADAM, and that we have died in Christ’s death! As a person in the race of Adam, we died.
Risen In Christ
And just as we believed in Christ as having died in our place, we place our faith in His RESURRECTION as being OUR resurrection! He stood in our place for death, and in our place for resurrection! And now, we believe and put our faith in the fact that we are raised in newness of life in the race of CHRIST. No longer in the race of Adam, but now in the race of Christ.
We died to being one kind of creature, and are now a new creature in the race of Christ.
Life In Christ
Now, just as we were born naturally and we had our life in Adam, and we grew and grew and as we grew the inherited nature of Adam within us became more and more manifested–in this same way, when we were born from above and placed in Christ, we inherited His DIVINE NATURE within us, and now we are having to learn ALL OVER AGAIN how to live, except now we are learning to live by a whole new NATURE within us! This life that we have been given, eternal life, is in the Son. It is not given to our old Adam nature. It is given to us by our spirit being joined to the Lord’s Spirit, and the Life remains in the Holy Spirit. We never have it apart from our Lord as resident within us!
Active Side Of Living By Christ
Now, just as for death and for new life, we had to exercise FAITH—so now, to live by Christ’s life within us, we must live by faith in the Son of God.
We exercise faith in the fact that His Life, His Divine Nature, has been implanted in us by the Holy Spirit, and therefore we have everything within us, dwelling in Him in us, that is necessary to live the new life in Christ!
Just as in Adam we had within us all the resources of nature to live upon for the earthly life, we have died to that whole life and order of things, and now we have all the heavenly resources to live upon for the heavenly life in Christ!
Let’s take for example a situation where we are being opposed. Maybe our child is just totally against whatever we are thinking or talking about. Especially children don’t want to do what you tell them to do. When the natural life of your child rises up and comes dead set against you in whatever way of opposition—- how do we handle that situation by living on CHRIST?
In that very moment—- we exercise faith in the life of Christ dwelling within us, for the Holy Spirit to rise up and meet the child’s opposition with all humility, meekness, patience, gentleness, kindness, and love. That is how we actively live on the Life of Christ within us! 🙂
If we are still in Adam, we would meet the child’s opposition with EARTHLY measures such as: arguing, yelling, bitterness, rage, anger, etc. (CARNAL weapons)
Can we see the difference?
Let’s take this practical situation—The fact that the devil wants us to be totally brought down under condemnation all the time. Whenever he gets the opportunity, he will make us to believe that we are not truly saved, that we are the most horrible, far beyond saving person in the world. How do we meet this real thing that happens? By living on the Life of Christ—-by exercising faith in the fact that JESUS IS OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS! And then we dismiss those accusations, and we believe on the Life of Christ in us to meet that accusation! It is what HE IS for us, not what we are in ourselves!
It is necessary to think about these things because we shall never grow or move on with the Lord if we don’t come to see what it is that we are called to, or what it is that we have been given in Christ! 🙂
