9 Indeed, we felt within ourselves that we had received the sentence of death [and were convinced that we would die, but this happened] so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead. 10 He rescued us from so great a threat of death, and will continue to rescue us. On Him we have set our hope. And He will again rescue us [from danger and draw us near], 11 while you join in helping us by your prayers. Then thanks will be given by many persons on our behalf for the gracious gift [of deliverance] granted to us through the prayers of many [believers]. 2 Corinthians 1:9-11
If you have never already, I highly recommend reading the New Testament (especially) in the Amplified Bible version. It gives a much more comprehensible presentation of the Word, and is able to give meaning to what we would otherwise pass right over in another version of the Word.
In this passage from 2 Corinthians 1, there are three things in it that I want to draw out and highlight.
(1) The fact that Paul states that the reason those things (trial, adversity, hardship, etc.) happened, was in order that they would not trust in themselves, but in God.
(2) That they had come to a new hope, and more fuller hope in the Lord for all things.
(3) Lastly, that by drawing the prayers from the Body, many would recognize and give thanks to God for delivering them from more hardship.
This Happened In Order That…..
What is striking is that this is the same thing that happens to all of us who are in Christ, in many different ways and things. We all experience hard things that often lead us to the place where we feel as though we are going to lose everything whether that be our very life, all our possessions, our marriage, or anything else. And if we are giving the Lord His rightful place in our lives, we come to find in that trial that the reason it happened was in order that we would not trust in ourselves, or our money, or our possessions, or our jobs, or our marriages, or in other people, or in this world. And we come to the bottom of it all, and place our trust in GOD ALONE. And from that trial, we come out in victory, having let go of trusting in ourselves or in other things, and trusting in God alone, who is worthy of all trust!
On Him We Have Set Our Hope……
And when we come through that trial, we move forward in our lives having set our hope on Him alone for ALL things! We move forward, no longer hoping in ourselves, or this world, or other people, or in money, or in our marriages, or in anything else. Now, it is only in the Lord. And as we move on and ever on, our hope in Him grows and is secured, rooted and grounded by faith!
Then Thanks Will Be Given By Many Persons……
And as we move on, we come up against more trials, more hardships, more losses, and we are confident in the Lord who will deliver us from them all, having our hope and trust in Him. And when we face new trials, we seek for the Body that we are in touch with to pray for our deliverance, so that when the Lord does deliver, many give thanks to God for His awesome power and love and mercy in delivering us from those things! This also extends to those we ask others to pray for, maybe our family members or husbands, children, etc. So that when the Lord delivers and answers the prayers of those who pray, thanks is given, and all glory is given to God alone!
Practical Help In A Time Of Trial
Having seen this, I want to share some things that I have experienced, and what came of those experiences, in order to minister to anyone going through such experiences, in hopes to turn your eyes and hearts to God in Christ! He is the answer and the source. He is taking us all through experiences, with a purpose in mind. Nothing is coincidental when we are in Christ, and seeking to live in Him alone. And it is by these experiences that we discover who He really is, and what He can really do, and we are lifted out of this world in our hearts, and ever closer to Him.
Over the next several days, I will be sharing different experiences that the Lord lays on my heart! 🙂
